T.E.C. (Trapeansankae Education Center) was founded by Kakada in 2010 with the aim of providing children and young people living in remote areas of Kampot with the opportunity to receive a good level of education. The first English classroom was set up next to Kakada’s parents’ house.
In 2021, T.E.C. received a generous donation from Sebastian Schroeder and Friedhelm Tang for the construction of a new school consisting of 3 classrooms, a library, a computer room, an office and a living room for the principal, and the number of students increased from 30 to 380 in 2022.
Friedhelm Tang and Birgit Saget want to buy land behind the school in a further step, on which more new classrooms, an assembly hall and a library as well as a larger office for the administration in the final stage are planned.
The construction project is planned in several phases, depending on the availability of donations and building possibilities. Friedhelm Tang is also keen to build a water treatment plant so that the children can take clean water home with them.
T.E.C.Fundamental Values
The core values of this educational institution also include educational work relating to the environment and climate, health and hygiene. School fees are waived for poor pupils, bicycles are provided as well as school clothing and meals.
T.E.C. is also involved in mangrove protection and raises the awareness of children and young people for this protection.
T.E.C. Destination
Buon Kakada has drawn up a visionary plan that envisages the following: Purchase of 2900 square metres of land, filling of the ground and fencing, construction of 1-3 floors for 6 classrooms and toilets, hall, library and office. Depending on the progress of construction, the furnishing of the classrooms and the salaries of the teachers and infrastructure costs for ongoing operations will be added. In addition to English and Chinese, art, music, sport and environmental awareness will also be taught at the new school.
Current cost estimate: approx. 350,000 US $ for land purchase and construction costs for a full 3 storeys. The first stages of construction are being financed by Friedhelm, who would like more sponsors, especially for the long-term maintenance of the school.
